You’re invited to the first Women’s Business Alliance networking luncheon of 2023 during National Women’s History Month! The Thursday, March 9 luncheon will feature the Captain of the Port of the United States Coast Guard (USCG) Marine Safety Unit in Houma, Loan T. O’Brien.
Captain Loan O’Brien is the U.S. Coast Guard Commanding Officer of Marine Safety Unit Houma. She serves as the Captain of the Port, Federal Maritime Security Coordinator, Federal On-Scene Coordinator, and Officer-in-Charge of Marine Inspection for this area of responsibility. She oversees vessel and facility inspections, marine casualty investigations, and port safety and security for South Central Louisiana including the Atchafalaya River Basin. Her operational tours include Sector Los Angeles- Long Beach, Sector Corpus Christi, and Marine Safety Unit Port Arthur, along with staff tours at Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Captain O’Brien graduated from Coast Guard Officer Candidate School in 2000. She was also prior enlisted as a Telecommunications Specialist and completed Coast Guard Basic Training in 1999. She was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and is the first female Vietnamese-American Captain to command a Coast Guard Marine Safety Unit.
